Setting Up Your Hotel Room Block with Jetaport!

0904 copy

If you know anyone that has set up their own wedding room block, they’ll be the first to tell you that it’s no task to take lightly. Communicating with hotels, negotiating costs, and reading the contracts can be very confusing and time-consuming. Here’s everything you need to know about setting up your own wedding room block!

Wedding dates, done right.

Do a quick search to see if there are any major conventions or events going on that will have hotels booked up. And make sure to set up your block early (around 8 months) to be sure you can get rooms for your guests.

Keep it together!

There’s nothing like having all of your close friends and family staying at the same place, reacquainting with old faces and making new friends. If you want to give guests hotel options at different price points, make sure the hotels aren’t too far from each other or the venue. Guests want to be a part of the wedding weekend fun, and a lot of that comes from staying near all the action!

Get comp’t courteously.
Hotels will sometimes offer a complimentary honeymoon or bridal suite if your guests book over 10 or 20 rooms (maybe some free bubbly too!).  You’ll also want to make sure you’re not financially liable if your guests don’t fill up all the rooms.  This is known as a “Courtesy Room Block”.

It’s a cinch with Jetaport!

Some things are good to DIY, and others you should leave to the experts (especially when it’s free). Ahem. Meet our friends at Jetaport, the best way to secure hotel rooms for wedding guests. How does it work? Simple. Give them the dates and city of your wedding, then select your favorite hotels in the area. You’ll soon be greeted by your dedicated Travel Advisor who walks you through the entire process. So sit back and relax because the experts at Jetaport will take care of everything for you!

Did we mention their service is completely free?

Try Jetaport now to get expert help!

Fun Groom’s Cakes

donut stacks and oreo cookie groom's cake

Often groom’s cakes are more about the flavor than the decoration. It’s a chance to throw in a chocolate cake (or whatever is the groom’s favorite) alongside a traditional buttercream. But this selection of groom’s cakes has less to do with choosing a gourmet cake, and more to do with quirky style and the groom’s interests.

Maybe your groom likes his snack foods (or maybe he’s just a Simpsons fan) but these donut stacks look pretty darn tasty. And the minimalist in me loves the Oreo tower. Either way, it’s an unexpected treat for your guests.

beer cooler groom's cake

Many of the most popular groom’s cakes are a tribute to his favorite food or drink.  This beer cooler cake (above) was featured at a wedding filled with microbrews and laidback style.

Tabasco hot sauce groom's cake

For the fellas that love their hot sauce, they will probably love this Tabasco bottle cake!

Atlanta Braves groom's cake

Sports is also a common theme for these cakes. It’s a chance to show off their pride in their hometown or college team.  The baseball (above) and football (below, left) cakes are pretty elaborate.  Before you order a cake this large, make sure that it’s the right amount for your event. Otherwise, you’ll be eating frozen cake for quite some time after the wedding.

Aggie and Super Mario groom's cakes

Geek chic also shows up in these fondant works of art. From Super Mario to superheroes, the fanboy you love can have the best cake ever!

Clark Kent and Superman groom's cake

Is he a wee bit obsessed with his car or bike?  He will love a cake celebrating his prized possession as a fun surprise on the big day.

Lastly, if your man serves in the military or as a firefighter or police officer, commemorate their contribution with an emblem, badge, or fireman’s hat.

5 Simple Tips for Hosting a Bridal Shower

bridal

Pay attention to your guest list.

As the hostess, you determine the guest list. It is generally wise to ask the bride for a list of those she would like invited, but also make sure to give her a number of how many people you can invite.  Everyone is invited to the bridal shower should be invited to the wedding, unless it is an office party or a shower that is held out of town by one of the in-laws.

Stick to a budget.

A bridal shower’s budget can get out of hand really fast. It’s like planning a mini-wedding. If you have a smaller budget holding it mid-afternoon so that you can just serve tea and cake is probably the best bet to save money. Pinterest has some terrific ideas from bridal shower decor, and you can also find some here. Just make sure to not go overboard. Your friend already loves you for taking the time and effort to throw this party, she doesn’t want you to go into debt hosting it!

Keep the bride’s personality in mind.

Shower games are a strange staple at events these days. No one really wants to play them, but it seems they are expected. If your friend is an introvert, make sure to avoid embarrassing her by finding games that suit her.  One way to get the pressure off is to play “team” games such as trivia questions about the couple.

Set up the space strategically.

Especially if you have a small space, but a lot of guests, setting up the party is a really important step to its success.  Make sure not to set up all of the usual gathering spaces too close together. For example, spread out the beverages from the food, and the gift table from the door. As you know, people usually gather in groups of 2-3, and it’s best to not make people feel too crowded in any one place.

Write down each gift and who it is from.

The bride will thank you a million time over for this.  You think that you will remember who bought what, but after those mimosas, you can’t quite recall who exactly gifted the vegan cookbook. A handy-dandy list keeps everything nicely recorded for when the bride writes her thank you notes later.  In fact, if you want to go the extra mile, purchase thank you cards for the bride that match the bridal shower invites, and even pre-address them for her.

Watercolor-Inspired Wedding Invitations from Storkie

blue watercolor ombre wedding invitation

2014 is full of unique color and pattern trends, including soft watercolor designs. In particular, this watercolor-inspired trend can have a lovely ombre effect, with gentle stripes and layered tones.  From wedding dresses to invitations, watercolor has definitely made a splash in every detail!  This blue invite from Storkie (above) with its pale blue ombre stripes is almost reminiscent of the ocean. Wouldn’t it be perfect for a summery beach wedding?

watercolor and tree wedding invitation

This invitation above also incorporates another big 2014 detail: paper cut outs.  We love Storkie’s design of the romantic tree and stenciled heart in front of a ombre wash of green.  Aptly, this invitation was personalized for a garden wedding!

pink ombre watercolor wedding invite

I can’t get over how cute this last invitation is. With its sweet pinkish coral watercolors and large modern font, it would already be pretty great without the ribbon. But that knot?! How fun is that?  And you could even bring the theme of the knot through to your wedding by knotting your rings with a similar ribbon onto your ring pillow.

Storkie has tons of save-the-dates and wedding invites for every style wedding, whether you are looking to incorporate soft watercolors or you have another theme in mind!

It’s all about DIY, says Amy Atlas. “I’ve seen make-your-own pizza topping bars, mashed potato and French fry bars and pancake bars for the day-after brunch. On the dessert side, I’ve seen milkshake bars, popcorn bars, gelato and donut bars, and for drinks mimosa bars and end-of- the-night juice bars and coffee bars.”

Bar Design Basics

► Use fabulous furniture. Set your food or drinks on a gorgeous vintage dresser, a gleaming grand piano or on a rustic table to add a dazzling sense of design to your venue.

The Most Luxurious Glamping Honeymoons | Honeymoon

There’s something inherently romantic about sleeping under the stars. The sounds, the setting, the vast, carpeted sky. But camping can also bring tinned food, sketchy public restrooms and a major bug factor. Thankfully there is a host of high-end properties around the world that offer all the adventure to set your heart aflutter and all the pampering to make your honeymoon dreams come true.

From Australia to Zimbabwe, here’s a list of our favorite spots that offer the opportunity to reconnect with nature — without sacrificing upscale amenities (think oversized copper bathtubs) and service (like a "camping butler" to set-up s’mores roasts).

By:
Laura Fredricks
get-what-you-want_th.jpg

In wedding planning, as in life, there are uncomfortable topics you have to cover, so knowing the right way to ask (instead of argue) for things gives you a way to resolve any possible ripples before they become tidal waves. When the asking is out of the way, there’s more time for enjoying, celebrating and making memories. Isn’t that what your big day is supposed to about? Here, some ideas.

Roy and Noa’s Israel Wedding by LUZ Weddings

bride and groom kissing

It’s not often that we receive events from Israel, so I was very excited to see this one from LUZ Weddings in Tel Aviv.  Roy and Noa’s evening wedding is decidedly urban and very modern. I love the hip details shown throughout, including Noa’s peek-a-boo dress (and pretty magnificent updo).  The couple were married in a traditional Jewish ceremony, joined by their closest friends and family. And it appears the celebrating and dancing continued well into the night!
